Elbit Systems Sweden’s Tactical High Mobility Shelter (THMS): HERNING — Elbit Systems Sweden has used the DALO Industry Days 2026 exhibition at MCH Messecenter Herning to launch its Tactical High Mobility Shelter (THMS). The platform is designed to provide mobile and distributed military units with rapid, secure communication and sensor capabilities without relying on static command posts.

The system arrives as modern armed forces increasingly shift away from fixed infrastructure, which remains vulnerable in contested electromagnetic and physical environments. By offering a self-contained node for maneuvering formations, the THMS aims to bridge communication gaps across complex terrain.

Engineering for Rapid Deployment and Mobility

Developed and manufactured in Sweden using a European supply chain, the THMS is engineered to withstand demanding operational conditions, including extreme weather and Arctic climates.

A core feature of the platform is its high mobility and quick setup time. The system features an automated telescopic mast that extends up to 25 metres and can carry payloads of up to 100 kg. Combined with an automatic guying rope mechanism, the shelter can be deployed in under five minutes, significantly reducing the workload for operators in the field.

Furthermore, the unit is entirely self-contained. It includes integrated power generation that allows for up to 24 hours of autonomous operation independently of its host vehicle. The shelter is designed to be compatible with both tracked and wheeled military platforms.

Modular Architecture for Multi-Role Missions

Rather than serving a single communications function, the THMS employs a modular design intended to support a broad range of mission profiles.

The platform can act as a forward communications and sensing node, extending both line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) connectivity. Its payload capacity accommodates various technologies, including:

* Traditional tactical communication and radio systems
* Electronic warfare (EW) equipment
* Surveillance, observation, and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors
* Satellite communications (SATCOM) and tactical 5G infrastructure
* High-power laser (HPL) capabilities

Tobias Wennberg, CEO of Elbit Systems Sweden, noted that future land operations rely heavily on connecting distributed forces and effectors in real time. The system was recently validated during a large-scale European live demonstration of digitalised land force networks, where it provided operational continuity for mobile forces.
