India’s DRDO and top Science University unveil new explosive detection device RaiDer-X

DRDO Explosive Detection Device RaiDer-X: India’s premier Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO unveiled a new explosive detection device RaiDer-X  at National Workshop on Explosives (NWED-2020) in Pune on Sunday. The RaiDer-X which has been developed in collaboration with IISc Bangalore has the capability to detect several types of explosive from a stand-off distance.

The RaiDer-X is also capable of detecting explosives in pure form and it can also detect explosives when they are mixed with other contaminants to conceal them. The device is also future ready and can be re-calibrated for detection of newer explosives as a data library can be built and expanded in the system.

“Bulk explosives in concealed condition can also be detected by the device,” said the ministry of defence in a statement.

RaIDer-X has been co-developed by High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) Pune and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

National Workshop on Explosive Devices (NWED-2020)

The two-day workshop was organised by HEMRL Pune and provides a platform to for sharing of knowledge and experience in the field of explosive detection.

In his inaugural address, DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy said detection of explosives was a compelling need of the hour.

“Security agencies are continuously monitoring vulnerable targets with the help of intelligence agencies to thwart the attempts of anti-social elements,” he said.

G Satheesh Reddy also appreciated the joint pursuit of academic institutions and DRDO in development of portable devices which can now be safely and effectively used by security agencies.

More than 200 delegates from different DRDO laboratories, Army, CRPF, CISF, State Police, academic Institutes, industries and other security agencies are attending the workshop.
