The collaboration between Navantia and Leonardo is not new, with the companies having a history of working together on naval projects. This includes the integration of Leonardo’s OTO 127/64 LW gun systems, fire control radar, and Automatic Ammunition Handling System (AAHS) into Navantia’s F110 Frigates for the Spanish Armada. Leonardo’s gun systems and fire control radar are also operational on other Spanish naval vessels. Furthermore, naval assets built by Navantia for international clients have also been equipped with Leonardo’s systems.
The signing of this MoU signifies a formal commitment by both companies to continue their cooperation in offering what they describe as competitive and technologically advanced solutions. They anticipate that this agreement will foster increased flexibility and agility in their commercial and strategic decision-making processes, particularly in response to customer timelines.
