Breakthrough in Autonomous Ground Warfare.

India’s olee.space laser powered laser sniper UGV.
Olee Space’s AI-powered autonomous laser powered sniper for CUAS operations: Pune-based defence technology firm olee.space has unveiled what it describes as the world’s most compact 2-kilowatt AI-enabled laser sniper system mounted on an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV), marking a significant advancement in autonomous ground combat systems. The indigenous platform has successfully completed field testing with key defence stakeholders and is now ready for operational deployment and sale, officials familiar with the programme confirmed.
The system represents a major leap in India’s development of Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs) and AI-driven battlefield technologies, strengthening the country’s push toward defence self-reliance.

Directed Energy for Rapid, Non-Kinetic Response
Designed for close-combat and perimeter defence roles, the AI-powered laser system can neutralise, dazzle, or functionally disable hostile personnel, vehicles, and equipment within seconds. As a non-kinetic solution, it offers rapid engagement without conventional ammunition, aligning with modern battlefield requirements where speed, precision, and autonomy are critical.
Defence analysts view the integration of directed energy with artificial intelligence and autonomous mobility as a transformative capability in contemporary warfare.

Compact, Rugged and Logistically Efficient
One of the platform’s defining features is its compact footprint. The UGV measures approximately 5 feet by 3 feet, weighs under 250 kilograms, and operates on a diesel engine. It offers a fuel-efficient operational range exceeding 130 kilometres, extendable with additional fuel capacity.
Its small size and rugged build make it suitable for deployment across diverse terrains, including urban combat zones, border areas, deserts, forests, and other challenging environments where traditional armoured vehicles may face limitations. Despite its size, the system delivers high-precision laser engagement capable of near-instant threat neutralisation.
AI-Driven Autonomy and Rapid Deployment
The laser sniper system incorporates advanced artificial intelligence and machine-learning algorithms that enable autonomous navigation, target recognition, and engagement. It can be deployed at the press of a button, allowing rapid response while minimizing direct exposure of personnel to hostile threats.
James Solomon, Founder and CEO of olee.space, described the development as a “decisive shift” in ground combat strategy. “By combining directed energy, artificial intelligence, and autonomous mobility in an extremely compact form factor, we have created a system that enhances battlefield effectiveness while significantly reducing risk to human lives,” he said. He added that the platform reflects the company’s commitment to building indigenous, future-ready defence technologies aligned with India’s strategic objectives.

Swarm Capability Enhances Tactical Dominance
A standout capability of the platform is its ability to operate in coordinated swarm formations. Multiple UGVs can function together to secure perimeters, dominate tactical zones, and establish protective shields around critical infrastructure and assets.
Defence experts describe the system as one of the most advanced ground-based swarm laser weapon solutions developed globally. By enabling coordinated machine-to-machine operations, the platform supports emerging doctrines in autonomous warfare, where systems cooperate and respond faster than traditional command-driven frameworks.

Operational Readiness and Global Interest
Following successful field trials with defence stakeholders, the system has achieved operational readiness. olee.space is currently engaged in discussions with international defence and security clients allied with India, reflecting growing global interest in indigenous directed energy and autonomous combat systems.
The development bolsters India’s standing in advanced defence technologies—particularly in directed energy weapons, autonomous ground systems, and AI-driven platforms—areas traditionally dominated by a limited group of technologically advanced nations.
With this launch, India moves closer to establishing a domestically developed autonomous defensive shield capable of securing land borders, strategic installations, and sensitive inland locations.
