Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Indian Navy Chief of Personnel: Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, AVSM, NM, took charge as the Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy on November 1, 2025. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (Khadakwasla), he was commissioned in 1990 and brings over three decades of distinguished naval service.
As a specialist in Gunnery and Missiles, Vice Admiral Singh has served on several naval ships, including INS Ranjit and INS Prahar, and had the unique distinction of being part of the commissioning crews of three indigenously constructed warships: INS Brahmaputra, INS Shivalik, and INS Kochi. He has commanded frontline destroyers such as INS Vidyut and INS Khukri, the latter earning a Chief of Naval Staff Unit Citation during his command.

His shore appointments include instructional roles at INS Dronacharya and leadership at the Naval War College, Goa. Staff tenures have spanned personnel management, intelligence, and the Indian Naval Work-up Team. He commanded the Eastern Fleet from 2022 to 2024, overseeing high operational tempo aligned with the mission of ‘Ordnance on Target’.

Promoted to Vice Admiral in 2024, he took on roles aimed at improving personnel conditions before his current appointment. Academically, he holds an MSc and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies, along with advanced courses from premier Indian and international institutions, including the National Intelligence University in Washington and the United Nations Staff Officers Course in Sweden.
