SMPP Wins Order for 10,000 Bulletproof Jackets for Paramilitary Forces: New Delhi — Indian defence manufacturer SMPP Limited has secured an additional order to supply 10,000 bulletproof jackets (BPJs) to India’s paramilitary forces, strengthening the company’s role as a major domestic supplier of advanced ballistic protection systems.
The new order raises the total number of bulletproof jackets that the company will supply to India’s paramilitary forces to 50,000 units, according to an announcement made by the firm on March 10, 2026.
The development comes as India continues to expand domestic defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat program, which prioritises indigenous production of critical military equipment including personal protection systems.
Growing orders from India’s paramilitary forces
The additional procurement builds upon an existing contract under which SMPP is already supplying 40,000 bulletproof jackets to several paramilitary forces tasked with border security, internal security and protection of strategic infrastructure.
The jackets are intended for personnel serving in organisations including the Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, and Sashastra Seema Bal.
Company officials said the new order reflects the paramilitary forces’ confidence in SMPP’s delivery schedule and product quality.
“In recognition of SMPP’s timely deliveries and consistent product quality, the paramilitary forces have placed an additional order of approximately 10,000 Bullet Proof Jackets, taking the cumulative order quantity to 50,000 units,” the company said in a statement.
The bulletproof jackets are designed to meet demanding operational requirements and provide reliable protection for personnel deployed in high-risk environments ranging from border regions to counter-insurgency operations.

Major portion of existing order already delivered
SMPP confirmed that production of the earlier order is progressing on schedule. Out of the initial 40,000 units, around 28,000 bulletproof jackets have already been delivered to the paramilitary forces.
The remaining units are scheduled to be delivered during the next financial year in accordance with contractual timelines.
In addition to these supplies, SMPP has also been delivering specialised bulletproof jackets capable of stopping armour-piercing ammunition to other security forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force and the Indian Army.
These advanced protection systems are designed to enhance survivability for troops operating in hostile environments where threats include high-velocity rifle rounds.
SMPP: Focus on indigenous protective technologies
SMPP Limited has built a reputation as one of India’s key manufacturers of advanced ballistic protection systems used across land, air and maritime platforms.
The company’s protective equipment is designed and manufactured in India, adhering to stringent ballistic protection standards and operational requirements. The systems are engineered to balance maximum ballistic protection with ergonomic comfort, ensuring that soldiers and security personnel can operate effectively during extended missions.
According to Ashish Kansal, Chief Executive Officer of SMPP Limited, the large order reflects the company’s operational capabilities and its focus on protecting frontline personnel.
“The execution of this large order reflects our manufacturing strength, robust quality systems, and our deep commitment to safeguarding the lives of those who serve the nation,” Kansal said.
He added that the company remains focused on delivering world-class protective equipment that enhances operational effectiveness while supporting India’s defence self-reliance goals.
Expanding footprint in defence manufacturing
Beyond personal protection equipment, SMPP has been steadily expanding its presence across multiple segments of the defence industry.
The company is currently developing capabilities to manufacture ammunition for 155 mm artillery guns, a critical component in modern battlefield artillery systems.
In addition, SMPP has begun investing in emerging defence technologies such as drones and drone ammunition, areas that are becoming increasingly important in modern warfare.
Industry analysts say this diversification strategy reflects a broader trend in India’s defence sector, where domestic firms are moving beyond traditional manufacturing roles toward integrated defence technology development.
With growing orders from the armed forces and paramilitary organisations, SMPP’s expanding portfolio highlights the increasing participation of private industry in India’s defence ecosystem.
As the country continues to strengthen its indigenous defence industrial base, companies like SMPP are expected to play an increasingly important role in equipping India’s security forces with domestically produced, high-performance equipment.
