Indian Army to move its headquarters, key offices in a new Green building

New headquarter of Indian Army: Indian Army will move all its key offices, including its headquarter located near South Block, to the Thal Sena Bhawan (the Army House) to be built in Delhi Cantonment. Defence minister Rajnath Singh, who laid the foundation of new building said all the departments of the Indian Army and newly created department of military affairs (DMA) will come under one roof.

“New building will play a significant role in saving valuable resources and contribute to administrative efficiency,” said defence minister Rajnath Singh.

At present, Indian army’s key offices are located at several locations in national capital Delhi, including its headquarter called the Sena Bhawan, South Block, RK Puram and Shankar Vihar, among other places.

After winning the second consecutive term in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has embarked on a drive to build and re-develop new buildings and headquarters for important government departments and ministries. It has also approved redevelopment of British era Parliament House Complex Building, and North and South Blocks, the seat of power in the country, which are located atop Raisina Hills.

The redevelopment of Parliament House Complex will be done under the Central Vista Project to be completed before 2024.

While talking about the advantages of building a new house for Indian Army headquarters, defence minister Rajnath Singh said that it will bring all important offices under one roof and they will collectively contribute towards national security.

New army headquarter to be a source of inspiration

The foundation stone of the new building will be a source of inspiration that will remind the people of the country about the sacrifices made by our soldiers, said Rajnath Singh while laying the foundation stone.

The defence minister said India has emerged as one of the most powerful nations due to the sacrifices made by the soldiers.

He hoped that the new building will not just be an edifice of Army personnel and civilian defence staff, but will inspire the people to achieve new goals with renewed passion and enthusiasm.

Details of Indian Army’s new headquarter

Green building

The new Army House complex will be spread over an area of 39 acres, It has been designed as a multi-storey green building and it will follow Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) norms.

Approximately 7.5 lakh square meters of area will be constructed to house the office complex and parking.

Residential-cum-office space

The construction of new Thal Sena Bhawan (The Army House) is expected to be completed in five years. It will have house offices, residential complex for security personnel with basic amenities.

More than 1,700 officers both military & civilian and 1,300 sub staff will be accommodated in the new building.

Presently, Army Headquarters is spread over several pockets i.e. South Block, Sena Bhawan, Hutments Area, RK Puram, Shankar Vihar and other places.
