Sanlayan Versabyte Partnership: Bengaluru, October 27, 2025 — In a significant move aimed at boosting India’s defense sector, Sanlayan Technologies (Sanlayan) has announced a strategic investment in Versabyte Data Systems (Versabyte), a leading player in the defense power electronics market. The partnership is set to accelerate the nation’s push for technological self-reliance in defense and aerospace technologies, with a focus on enhancing indigenous capabilities across key sectors.
Versabyte, founded in 1987 by P.S. Reddy, is renowned for its expertise in power electronics, serving prominent clients such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and the Indian Armed Forces. The company has a longstanding reputation for providing high-reliability power solutions for land, air, naval, radar, and missile systems — a core component of modern defense infrastructure.
A Strategic Alliance to Fuel Innovation and Self-Reliance
The collaboration between Sanlayan and Versabyte is seen as a critical step in India’s ongoing efforts to reduce its dependence on foreign defense imports and foster indigenous innovation. Rahul Vamshidhar, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Sanlayan, emphasized the importance of power systems in modern defense technology. “Power systems are the heartbeat of modern defense equipment. Without them, the most sophisticated technology is nothing more than inactive hardware,” said Vamshidhar. He further added that, while India’s defense sector still relies heavily on imports in this domain, the partnership with Versabyte would play a pivotal role in shifting towards import substitution.
“Versabyte is synonymous with quality and reliability. The company is well-positioned to drive India’s push for self-reliance in defense technology. This collaboration is about more than just business — it’s a step toward boosting India’s defense capabilities and strengthening our national security,” Vamshidhar remarked.
The partnership will allow Sanlayan to expand its portfolio of defense electronics by integrating Versabyte’s high-reliability power solutions into its offerings. Sanlayan had previously acquired Dexcel Electronics, a 25-year-old embedded systems company, and has built a dedicated 70-member in-house R&D team focused on radar and electronic warfare technologies.
Strengthening India’s Defense Value Chain
By pooling resources and expertise, Sanlayan and Versabyte are positioning themselves to offer complete, end-to-end electronics solutions across the defense value chain. “Versabyte will continue to operate as an independent unit under the Sanlayan umbrella, retaining its leadership and engineering teams,” Vamshidhar clarified. “This partnership is about leveraging our collective strengths to not only address the domestic market but to make a mark internationally as well.”

Reddy, the Founder and Managing Director of Versabyte, highlighted the strategic vision behind the partnership, saying, “Versabyte’s legacy lies in enabling India’s defense backbone silently and reliably for decades. Versabyte, which has a deep legacy in power solutions for various defense platforms, plans to expand its offerings significantly. The company aims to develop next-gen, high-reliability power solutions for critical defense applications, including radar systems, autonomous unmanned systems, electronic warfare platforms, secured communications, and space-based technologies. Furthermore, with a focus on modular power supplies ranging from 1W to 200kW, Versabyte is now targeting a scale of up to 500kW to support emerging defense domains like long-range radars, directed energy weapons (DEW), and space applications.

According to R Chandra Kumar, CEO of Versabyte, the partnership will help both companies develop comprehensive “system-of-systems” solutions that require highly efficient power management and control. “Our vision is anchored in collaborative product development, new market expansion, and joint participation in strategic tenders,” said Kumar. “Together, we are positioning ourselves to capture a significant portion of India’s defense production target of ₹3 lakh crores and export target of ₹50 thousand crores by 2029.”
Chandra Kumar, who previously served as Executive Director at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), also revealed that Versabyte achieved a revenue of ₹67 crores and a post-tax profit of ₹16.5 crores in FY25, with an order book of ₹210 crores and a pipeline exceeding ₹200 crores. “Sanlayan’s startup agility, combined with our legacy of reliability, will help us streamline operations to deliver faster, better, and at scale,” Kumar said. The company aims to double its infrastructure, triple its turnover, and quadruple its workforce over the next few years to meet the growing demand for indigenous military hardware.
