India DRDO Pinaka LRGR: New Delhi, Dec. 29, 2025: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR-120), marking a significant milestone in Indian Army’s indigenous rocket artillery programme.

The test was carried out at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, where the rocket was fired to its maximum range of 120 kilometres. According to officials, the LRGR executed all planned in-flight manoeuvres and struck the designated target with “textbook precision,” validating its guidance and control systems.

All range instrumentation deployed during the trial tracked the rocket throughout its trajectory, confirming the accuracy and performance parameters of the system. The LRGR has been designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), with support from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI).

The flight trial was coordinated by the Integrated Test Range and the Proof & Experimental Establishment. Significantly, the rocket was launched from the in-service Pinaka launcher, demonstrating the platform’s versatility and its ability to fire different variants of Pinaka rockets with varying ranges from the same launcher.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on the successful test, describing the development of long-range guided rockets as a “game changer” that will substantially enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.
