Denmark Awards Rheinmetall Major Ammunition Supply Contract Under Seven-Year Framework Agreement

Rheinmetall Wins Denmark Order for Supply of Ammuniton: Denmark has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply a wide range of ammunition under a large-volume framework agreement, marking a significant strengthening of the country’s defence capabilities. The agreement was formally signed during a ceremony held on 30 January 2026 and has a duration of seven years.

Denmark, a member of both the European Union and NATO, will source multiple ammunition types from Rheinmetall as part of its long-term effort to enhance operational readiness and ensure secure supply chains for its armed forces.

Broad Range of Ammunition Covered

The framework agreement covers the supply of several categories of ammunition across key combat domains. These include medium-calibre ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled anti-aircraft systems, 120 mm ammunition for main battle tanks, and 155 mm artillery ammunition.

The scope of the agreement reflects Denmark’s focus on strengthening land forces and air defence capabilities, while also aligning with NATO standards and interoperability requirements.

First Orders in the Medium-Calibre Segment

Initial orders placed under the framework agreement focus on medium-calibre ammunition. Rheinmetall will deliver various cartridge types in 30 mm × 173 and 35 mm × 228 calibres, commonly used in infantry fighting vehicles and air defence platforms.

The total quantity ordered is in the high five-digit range, with the contract value reaching the low three-digit million euro level, underscoring the scale and strategic importance of the procurement.

Supply of 120 mm Tank Ammunition

In addition to medium-calibre rounds, Denmark has placed an order for more than 1,000 rounds of 120 mm kinetic-energy tank ammunition for its main battle tanks. The value of this order is in the high single-digit million euro range.

This component of the agreement supports Denmark’s armoured forces and ensures sustained availability of advanced tank ammunition for training and operational needs.

Strengthening European and NATO Defence Capabilities

The agreement comes amid heightened focus across Europe on defence readiness, stockpile replenishment, and long-term supply security. By entering into a multi-year framework agreement with Rheinmetall, Denmark aims to ensure reliable access to critical ammunition types while supporting industrial capacity within Europe.

The deal also highlights the growing role of established defence manufacturers in meeting the increasing demand from NATO member states.

Rheinmetall Reaffirms Its Global Role

Commenting on the agreement, Armin Papperger, Chief Executive Officer of Rheinmetall AG, welcomed Denmark’s decision and highlighted the company’s position in the global defence market.

“We are grateful for the trust Denmark has placed in us for its ammunition supply,” Papperger said. “Rheinmetall sees this as confirmation of its role as one of the world’s leading ammunition manufacturers.”

Long-Term Partnership Outlook

With a seven-year duration and substantial initial orders, the framework agreement lays the foundation for a long-term partnership between Denmark and Rheinmetall. Further orders are expected over the life of the contract, supporting Denmark’s evolving defence requirements and Rheinmetall’s continued expansion as a key supplier to European and allied armed forces.
