BEML-Dredging Corporation India Strategic Partnership.
BEML and Dredging Corporation of India Strategic Partnership: Mumbai, October 30, 2025 — In a move aimed at boosting India’s maritime and dredging infrastructure, BEML Limited and Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth approximately ₹350 crore. The agreements, finalized during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, are set to enhance India’s capabilities in dredging, reservoir de-siltation, and inland waterway development.
The MoUs were exchanged by Cmdr R.G.K. Rao (Retd.), Head of Aerospace & Maritime at BEML, and Capt S. Divakar, Managing Director & CEO of DCIL, with the presence of Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, and Dr. M Angamuthu, Chairman of DCIL. Key Areas of Collaboration
The three MoUs focus on several key areas that aim to strengthen India’s dredging and maritime sectors. These include:
Supply of Indigenous Spares for DCIL Dredgers: BEML will provide locally sourced spare parts for DCIL’s fleet of dredgers.
Design and Construction of Inland Cutter Suction Dredgers: BEML will design and build five inland cutter suction dredgers, a type of vessel used for dredging operations in inland waterways.
Development of Customised Dredging Solutions: The partnership will also involve the supply of cable dredgers, long-reach excavators, and other specialized equipment to support projects like reservoir de-siltation and the development of India’s inland waterways.
Under the terms of the partnership, BEML will be responsible for the supply, maintenance, and lifecycle support of the dredgers and related equipment, while DCIL will manage their deployment and operations across various maritime and inland waterway projects in India.
Focus on Self-Reliance and Indigenous Technology
This partnership comes at a time when India is increasingly focusing on self-reliance in its maritime sector. BEML’s involvement will bring engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities, which will help India reduce its dependency on imported dredging equipment. The collaboration also aligns with the Government of India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative, aiming to promote domestic manufacturing and innovation in the maritime industry.
Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML, commented on the partnership, stating, “Through these MoUs, BEML aims to bring its engineering excellence, manufacturing strength, and innovation-driven approach to create sustainable and efficient dredging solutions. This partnership will contribute to India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, enhancing self-reliance and driving the nation’s maritime growth forward.”
Building on Past Collaborations
This latest MoU builds on an earlier agreement signed in 2024 between BEML and DCIL to focus on the indigenous design and manufacturing of spare parts for dredgers. The current collaboration expands the scope to include a broader range of dredging equipment and technologies, further solidifying the two companies’ commitment to advancing India’s maritime capabilities.
As part of their ongoing efforts to modernize India’s maritime infrastructure, both BEML and DCIL are committed to leveraging indigenous technologies and working together to meet the growing demands of the sector. This partnership is expected to support key projects across India’s inland waterways and maritime regions, contributing to the government’s broader vision of transforming the country’s maritime infrastructure over the next few decades.
With this strategic partnership, BEML and DCIL are taking steps to ensure that India’s dredging and maritime sectors are better equipped to meet future challenges. As the country looks to modernize its maritime infrastructure and expand its inland waterway networks, collaborations like these are likely to play a significant role in advancing India’s long-term maritime goals.
