Adani Group Plans Expansion into Aircraft MRO and Freighter Conversion Services: India’s Adani Group has announced plans to expand its aviation footprint by entering two major service segments: aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and passenger-to-freighter (P2F) aircraft conversion. The move is aimed at capitalising on India’s rapidly growing aviation market while further diversifying the conglomerate’s infrastructure-led portfolio.
The initiative aligns with Adani’s broader strategy of building an integrated aviation ecosystem around its airport operations. As part of the restructuring, the group is consolidating its MRO assets under a single platform while separating airport infrastructure activities from aircraft services.
Adani Group entered the MRO segment in December last year with the acquisition of Air Works, a long-established aviation maintenance services provider. Since then, the group has been steadily expanding its presence across aviation services, which already include airport operations, MRO facilities and pilot training.

Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, said the group is reorganising its aviation businesses to enable scale and efficiency. “We have separated the two. One is the airport infrastructure and the other is the aircraft services business, which can include dual-use, defence and civilian,” he said, adding that Adani is combining its MRO assets into “a single giant MRO company”.
The group has also been active through its defence arm. Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Ltd recently announced that its venture Horizon Aero Solutions has agreed to acquire MRO services provider Indamer Technics Pvt Ltd in partnership with Prime Aero Services. In addition, the defence business said it would acquire a 72.8% stake in Flight Simulation Technique Centre (FSTC) for ₹820 crore.

Further expansion of MRO infrastructure is planned beyond Air Works’ existing footprint. Jeet Adani said the group intends to establish MRO bases in cities such as Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Bhubaneswar, where Air Works does not currently operate.
Flight training is another area identified for significant growth. According to Jeet Adani, FSTC currently operates 15 simulators, but India has the potential to absorb 40 to 50 simulators if execution keeps pace with demand. This assessment reflects the expected surge in pilot requirements as Indian airlines expand their fleets.

The expansion plans come as Adani Group last week announced an investment of ₹1 lakh crore in its airports business over the next five years. The group projects domestic aviation market growth of 10–15% over the next 10 to 15 years, spanning airports, airlines and related services.
