Leonardo and Rheinmetall, through their joint venture Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV), have secured a contract to supply 21 advanced armoured vehicles to the Italian Army. The first vehicle is expected to be delivered by the end of 2025. This contract marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two companies, which is focused on developing cutting-edge defense systems for modern operational scenarios.
The 21 vehicles being supplied will include 5 Lynx KF-41 vehicles with the Lance turret, and 16 new vehicles equipped with Leonardo’s Hitfist 30mm turret. The deal is part of Italy’s A2CS (Army Armoured Combat System) program, which aims to modernize its heavy vehicles fleet, including its Main Battle Tanks.

The partnership between Leonardo and Rheinmetall is designed to strengthen Europe’s sovereign defense capabilities, with 60% of the integration, testing, and logistical support activities to be carried out in Italy. The joint venture is committed to producing advanced military vehicles capable of operating in a multi-domain context, providing the Italian Army with a highly capable and interoperable combat system.
