German defense giant Rheinmetall has secured a major contract in the mid three-digit million-euro range to supply turret systems, cannons, and simulators for the Bundeswehr’s next-generation Luchs 2 reconnaissance vehicle. Prime contractor General Dynamics European Land Systems signed the agreement in Kaiserslautern in early February 2026.

At the heart of the upgrade is the new CT-025 unmanned modular turret. Rheinmetall Electronics in Bremen will deliver 274 units by 2031, marking the first major deployment of this advanced digital turret system.

Oerlikon KBA 25 cannon blends versatility with high-rate precision

The Luchs 2 will be armed with the battle-proven Oerlikon KBA 25 mm automatic cannon, manufactured by Rheinmetall Italia. Capable of firing up to 600 rounds per minute, the cannon supports dual belt feeds and proximity-fused ammunition effective against drones and armored vehicles.

A stabilised vision system and fully digital fire control suite enable precision strikes while on the move — even in complex electronic warfare environments. Compatibility with NATO standards ensures cross-platform synergy and logistical efficiency.

Advanced simulators recreate the modern battlefield

Rheinmetall will also supply six AGFS combat simulators and integrate its AGDUS live laser training system into the fleet. These tools replicate vehicle logic, sensor behavior, and ballistic physics — enabling mission-oriented training before troops enter real combat.

The Luchs 2 program thus combines lethality, adaptability, and digital integration — reinforcing Europe’s push for defense industrial cooperation and battlefield readiness.
