Indian Navy Bottom Opening Non-Propelled Barges Suryadipta Projects Private Limited: New Delhi, January 19, 2026: The Indian Navy has signed a contract with M/s Suryadipta Projects Private Limited, Thane, for the construction and delivery of three 200-tonne Bottom Opening Non-Propelled Barges. The agreement was concluded on January 16, 2026, according to an announcement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Delhi, on Monday.
The barges will be built at Suryadipta Projects’ MSME shipyard and constructed in accordance with the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The project is being positioned as a significant step in advancing the Government of India’s flagship initiatives of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
By awarding the contract to an MSME shipyard, the Indian Navy has reiterated its commitment to strengthening indigenous shipbuilding capabilities and supporting smaller domestic players in the maritime sector. Officials noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in developing a robust and self-reliant shipbuilding ecosystem in the country.
