Leonardo Acquires Enterprise Electronics Corporation:  Washington, D.C., January 16, 2026 — Leonardo has signed an agreement to acquire Enterprise Electronics Corporation (EEC), a U.S. company recognized globally for its advanced weather radar systems and satellite receiving stations, marking a significant expansion of Leonardo’s meteorological and environmental sensing capabilities.

The acquisition will be carried out through Leonardo’s subsidiary, Leonardo US Corporation, and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions. EEC will continue to operate under its established name and brand, while benefiting from closer commercial and technological integration with Leonardo.

Founded more than five decades ago, EEC specializes in the development, manufacturing and servicing of weather radar instruments and satellite ground stations used in meteorology, hydrology, aviation, research and defense. Its systems are deployed across both civilian and military sectors, supporting weather forecasting, severe weather warning, and operational decision-making worldwide.

Leonardo said the transaction strengthens its strategy to expand leadership in remote sensing technologies and turnkey environmental system solutions, particularly those based on radar, lidar and satellite applications. The meteorological business will continue to be led by Leonardo Germany, which already plays a central role in the company’s weather and environmental monitoring portfolio.

“With this acquisition, Leonardo enhances its ability to deliver integrated, high-performance meteorological solutions on a global scale,” the company said in a statement. “EEC’s expertise in weather radar complements Leonardo’s existing sensor and digital capabilities, enabling the group to better address increasing demand for accurate, real-time weather intelligence.”

The deal also underscores Leonardo’s long-term commitment to investing in the United States. EEC brings strong U.S.-based radar competencies, production capacity and deep application know-how, further reinforcing Leonardo’s industrial footprint in the country. Together, the two companies have helped shape the standards of radar meteorology for more than 50 years, with a combined installed base of over 1,500 systems in more than 120 countries.

Andrea Gaggelli, Managing Director of Leonardo Germany GmbH, described EEC as a “natural strategic fit” within Leonardo’s portfolio.

“Weather radars, wind lidars and windshear detection systems are high-precision instruments that form the backbone of meteorological services and severe weather warning systems,” Gaggelli said. “In a highly dynamic and complex operational environment, weather information superiority is becoming a strategic asset for all countries. Together, we are well positioned to set a new technological benchmark to meet future demands.”

From EEC’s perspective, the acquisition is expected to accelerate growth, particularly in the U.S. market where the company already holds a leading position. Kurt Kleess, Vice President of Sales at EEC, highlighted the complementary strengths of the two organizations.

“EEC’s radar systems incorporate cutting-edge technologies such as full solid-state transceivers and ultra-compact, cost-effective designs,” Kleess said. “Combined with Leonardo’s radar, lidar and integrated software portfolio, this partnership will expand our reach and capabilities. Integrating our service organizations will also significantly enhance global customer support.”

Leonardo noted that the complementary nature of the two companies’ sales networks will improve joint commercial positioning and enable the delivery of more comprehensive, integrated solutions in high-potential markets worldwide.
Once finalized, the acquisition is expected to further solidify Leonardo’s position as a global leader in environmental monitoring and remote sensing, at a time when demand for reliable weather and climate intelligence is growing rapidly across aviation, defense, civil protection and climate resilience sectors.
