Airbus India Technology Centre: Bengaluru, March 6, 2026: European aerospace giant Airbus has inaugurated a major new technology centre in Bengaluru, significantly expanding its operations in India and reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s aviation and aerospace ecosystem.

The new Airbus India Technology Centre, designed to accommodate around 5,000 employees, will serve as a central hub for engineering, digital transformation, customer services and procurement, forming a key pillar of the company’s expanding “Make in India” strategy.

Airbus’ Major Aerospace Facility in India

The state-of-the-art campus spans approximately 880,000 square feet, bringing together multiple Airbus functions under one roof. Company officials said the facility represents not only an expansion of capacity but also a strategic consolidation of engineering and operational activities in India.

The centre was inaugurated by D. K. Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, and M. B. Patil, the state’s Minister for Industries and Infrastructure. The ceremony was virtually attended by Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, India’s Minister of Civil Aviation.

Senior Airbus executives including Catherine Jestin, Executive Vice President for Digital at Airbus, and Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus in India and South Asia, also participated in the inauguration.

Strategic Hub for Airbus’ Global Operations

According to Airbus, the new centre will function as one of its largest engineering and digital hubs outside Europe, supporting both current and next-generation aerospace programmes.

“The inauguration of the Airbus India Technology Centre represents a strategic acceleration in our journey in India,” said Westermeier. “This centre provides the scale and headroom for our next phase of growth while strengthening the technological and innovation ecosystem that supports our global value chain.”

Indian engineers working at the facility contribute to the entire lifecycle of Airbus aircraft and helicopter programmes, including design support, systems optimisation, and operational technologies.

The centre will also support research and innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security and next-generation aircraft technologies.

Customer Services and Global Fleet Support

The Bengaluru campus will host a dedicated Customer Services centre responsible for supporting Airbus operators worldwide.

The unit will deliver services including flight-hour support programmes, maintenance assistance and technical troubleshooting to ensure operational efficiency across Airbus’ global fleet of commercial aircraft and helicopters.

Airbus: Strengthening the ‘Make in India’ Supply Chain

Beyond engineering and services, the campus will also function as a major procurement hub, coordinating sourcing and supplier engagement across India.

Airbus has significantly expanded its sourcing from Indian suppliers in recent years. Annual procurement from the country has grown from about $500 million in 2019 to more than $1.5 billion today, with the company aiming to cross $2 billion in sourcing before the end of the decade.

Currently, over 100 Indian companies supply components for Airbus global programmes. These include critical parts such as flap track beams, aircraft doors and helicopter fuselages.

Indian suppliers also support major aerospace manufacturing programmes including the C295 military transport aircraft final assembly line in Vadodara and the H125 helicopter assembly facility in Vemagal near Bengaluru.

Focus on Skills and Aerospace Talent

As part of its commitment to developing India’s aerospace workforce, the new facility will host a local chapter of the Airbus Leadership University, aimed at training future aerospace managers and technical specialists.

The initiative aligns with the Indian government’s Skill India programme, which seeks to expand high-value technical skills across industries.

Airbus has maintained a presence in India for more than six decades, while its engineering operations in Bengaluru have grown steadily over the past 20 years into a major global innovation centre.

With the launch of the new technology campus, the company is positioning India as an increasingly central node in its global aerospace engineering, digital and supply chain network.
