War against Coronavirus: India’s state owned Defence PSUs create isolation wards

Covid-19 – Corona Virus Latest Updates & News: India’s state owned network of defence factories has designated 285 beds for isolation wards in handling Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. While 40 beds have been earmarked in hospitals at Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, 30-bed facilities have been created at 6 Ordnance Board Factories. Two of them are located in West Bengal at Ishapore and Cossipore, while two others are located at Khadki and Ambajhari in Maharashtra, and one each in Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur) and Madhya Pradesh (Khamaria).

In addition to these six 30-bed facilities and one 40-bed facillities, two more 20-bed facilities have been set up at Heavy Vehicle Factory Avadi near Chennai in Tamil Nadu, and Ordnance Factory Medak in the state of Telangana.

A 25-bed facility to treat COVID-19 patients has been set up at Ordnance Factory in Ambernath in Maharashta.

Each of the above six 30-bed facilities are located Metal and Steel Factory Ishapore, Gun and Shell Factory Cossipore, Ammunition Factory Khadki, Ordnance Factory Kanpur, Ordnance Factory Khamaria and Ordnance Factory Ambajhari.

This cumulative 285 bed facility was created following a meeting of the cabinet secretary with the top central government officials, including officials from defence and health ministries.

Following the meeting, Hari Mohan, chairman of a network of 41 factories under the Ordnance Factory Board, ordered the creation of separate facilities to assist in the government’s effort to contain the virus.

The OFB said it was also trying to produce personal protection equipment and face masks as per pilot order quantity placed by HLL Lifecare Limited (HLL), a public sector company under the ministry of health and family welfare.
