Defence Exhibition Athens DEFEA 2021 postponed by two months

DEFEA 2021 new dates: In view of the prevailing Covid situation in Europe, organisers of the prestigious European defence exhibition, Defence Exhibition Athens (DEFEA), have rescheduled the event to July this year. According to the earlier revised schedule, the DEFEA was to be organised in May this year but as per the new revised schedule, the DEFEA defence exhibition will now be organised from July 13 to July 15, 2021 in Athens.

“We would like to inform you that DEFEA Organizers, in agreement with the Greek MoD – Ministry of Defence and the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence and Security Material Association (SEKPY), have taken the decision of transferring DEFEA from May 2021 to the new dates, from 13th to 15th of July 2021, in Athens, Greece,” Organisers said in a statement sent to Defence Star.

Outbreak of Covid-19 global pandemic has severely impacted defence industry like any other sector of the economy but defence exhibitions and military exercises have become its biggest casualty as several prestigious defence exhibitions have been cancelled last year.

Eurosatory 2020 cancelled.

While organisers of Eurosatory, the prestigious defence exhibition organised near Paris in France, has rescheduled the event to 2022, the second edition of Egypt Defence Exhibition (EDEX), managed by the Clarion Event, has also been postponed to December this year.

Eurosatory was scheduled to be organised in June last year near Paris but it has been postponed by two years and now it will be organised from June 13 to 17 in 2022.

“The decision to transfer DEFEA two months later, has as its main goal the formation of safer conditions for our exhibitors and visitors for the totally successful organization of the exhibition,” said the DEFEA organisers.

However, some other countries, such as India, Russia and UAE decided to organise their defence exhibition due to reduction in the occurrence of Covid infections.

Early this month, India successfully conducted its biennial air-show – Aero India 2021, while UAE is going ahead with the IDEX and NAVDEX which will be held Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre – ADNEC in Abu Dhabi from February 21 to 25. The two events are organised by Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company.

Despite the pandemic, Russia also hosted the sixth edition of its prestigious Army 2020 defence exhibition in August last year.

Defence Star is a media partner for Defence Exhibition Athens 2021, which is jointly organised by the Greek ministry of defence and Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence and Security Material Association. The event is managed by the ROTA SA, the largest exhibition company in Greece.
