India test fires surface-to-air Akash missile with indigenous seeker

Akash Missile: India has successfully tested its surface to air Akash missile system with an indigenously developed seeker.

The new seeker will enable the missile to neutralize advanced and maneuverable aerial targets.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO fired AKASH-MK-1S missile from Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odhisa on India’s east coast on two days, May 27 and 25.

Akash MK 1S is an upgrade of existing AKASH missile with an indigenous seeker.

The Akash weapon system has combination of both command guidance and active terminal seeker guidance.

Seeker and guidance performance have been consistently established in both the missions. All the mission objectives have been met, said the government in a statement.

AKASH MK 1S is a surface to air missile which can neutralize advanced aerial targets.
