Coronavirus: French defence exhibition Eurosatory postponed

Defence News: Organisers of prestigious French defence exhibition Eurosatory have decided to postpone the event due to outbreak of global pandemic of novel coronvirus saying that the health and safety of participants cannot be ensured due to deteriorating situation in France.

Unlike, Defence Exhibition Athens (DEFEA) which has been postponed to the next year, the organisers of Eurosatory have decided to defer the event by two years to 2022.

“The sanitary situation due to Covid-19 is deteriorating daily in France and has spread throughout the world,” the organisers of Euorsatory said while announcing their decision to cancel the event.

“The conditions for preparing and running the exhibition, which would protect the health and safety of the one hundred thousand expected participants, visitors, exhibitors and organisers, cannot be met,” said the organisers.

The Eurosatory 2020 was scheduled for five days, beginning from June 8 to 12 this year. The prestigious defence exhibition takes place near French capital Paris every two years.

“Many international and French exhibitors registered for the Eurosatory trade fair scheduled from June 8 to 12, 2020 are no longer able to prepare their participation and configure or transport the necessary equipment,” said the statement.

The novel coronavirus has caused unprecedented travel and trade disruptions across Europe, America and Asia as the countries have resorted to lockdowns, travel restrictions and opted for social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus.

“It also appears that the very large number of foreign visitors expected to participate in the fair can no longer plan their trip to France” said the organisers of Eurosatory.

Organising team of the Europe’s biggest defence technology exhibition also considered postponing the event to a later date when the situation improves, however, given the uncertain future, they decided to cancel this year’s event.

“The postponement of the exhibition to a later date has been studied but the conditions for success can not be met,” said the Eurosatory’s organising team.

New Dates for Eurosatory Exhibition

Now the prestigious defence industry event will be organised in June 2022.

“Eurosatory team invites you to the next edition of the exhibition that will be held from June 13 to 17, 2022,” the organisers of Eurosatory said in a statement.

Eurosatory Defence Exhibition

Eurosatory is an international Defence and Security industry trade fair that is held every two years in the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris, France.

In 2018, Eurosatory gathered over 1,800 exhibitors and over 57,000 visitors.

It is organized by GICAT and COGES in partnership with the French Ministry of Defense.
