COVID-19: Indian Air Force lends helping hand to civil authorities as India fights corona virus

Covid-19 – Corona Virus Latest News & Updates: Indian Air Force said it has been continuously working and taking every possible to provide all necessary assistance to civilian authorities in the country’s fight against teh deadly novel coronavirus which has claimed more than 77 lives in the country with 640 confirmed cases.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered a 21-day nationwide complete lockdown to break the chain of transmission of this highly contagious virus that has claimed over 25,000 lives across the globe in a matter of months.

“Indian Air Force is fully committed and ready in the country’s fight against the COVID-19. We need not worry but we must take preventive steps,” IAF said in a tweet.

IAF has created a total 9 quarantine facilities with the capacity to handle 200-300 persons each at different nodal bases of the force across the country.

Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore (CHAFB) located in India’s IT capital Bengaluru has been designated as the first laboratory in the IAF to undertake COVID-19 testing.

“The move will significantly enhance the region’s ability to carry out quick testing of suspected cases and allow prompt and timely intervention where required,” IAF said in a statement.

Indian Air Force has also set up 24×7 crisis management cells at Air Headquarters and various Command Headquarters to monitor the prevailing situation and provide immediate response and assistance as required.

Indian Air Force said its aircraft are continuing to fly in medical supplies and doctors to Leh and fly out blood samples for COVID testing to Chandigarh and Delhi.

The force said all measures and directives issued by the government towards containing the spread of COVID-19 have been strictly enforced across all the stations and bases of Indian Air Force.

“We stand ready with the government in this fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 and provide all possible assistance to the citizens of the country,” IAF said.
